Overview
The Alliant Energy Innovation Scholarship is administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest creator and manager of scholarship and education-support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for this specific scholarship is set by the sponsor; Scholarship America’s evaluation team reviews and selects recipients.
Who may apply
To be eligible, applicants must satisfy every item below:
- Be a U.S. resident living within the Alliant Energy service territory when applying.
- Be either a current customer in good standing of one of Alliant Energy’s utility subsidiaries (Interstate Power and Light Co. or Wisconsin Power and Light Co.) or the dependent child of such a customer.
- Be age 24 or younger and enrolling for the first time as a full-time undergraduate student in a craft/skilled trade (for example, Electrical Power Distribution, Gas Utility Construction and Service, Welding, among others) or in a STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school located within the Alliant Energy service area (Iowa and Wisconsin) for the entire upcoming academic year.
- Have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.5 and no more than 4.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- High school seniors who have completed or are taking college-level courses before high school graduation are eligible.
Who is not eligible
Employees of Alliant Energy Corporation, Scholarship America, their subsidiaries, affiliates, and any advertising or promotion agencies, as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, children, siblings and their spouses) and household members of those employees, are ineligible to apply.
Award details
- Award amount: $1,000 per recipient.
- Number of awards: Up to 25 scholarships will be awarded.
- Awards are one-time only, not renewable, and must be used for undergraduate study only.
How recipients are chosen
Scholarship America selects recipients based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated intent to pursue a career in a craft/skilled trade (examples include Electrical Power Distribution, Gas Utility Construction and Service, Welding) or in a STEM discipline.
- Leadership involvement in community service and volunteer activities.
- Academic GPA.
- Quality of a 350-word essay submitted with the application.
Notes on selection process
- Financial need is not considered in the selection.
- Scholarship America makes the final selections; all application materials are treated as confidential. No Alliant Energy officer or employee takes part in recipient selection. Decisions are final and not subject to appeal. The program is competitive and not all eligible applicants will receive awards.
Notification and payment
- Applicants will be informed of decisions in mid-March. Notifications are sent by email. When creating your account, use a personal email address you will retain rather than a school or work email.
- Add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org and the program email address to your safe sender list.
- Scholarship America will process scholarship payments for Alliant Energy. Payments are issued in a single installment in June.
Application requirements — documents to upload
Your application will be incomplete until all required documents are uploaded electronically. Required items:
- A current, complete official transcript (grade reports are not accepted). The transcript must show:
- Student name
- School name
- Course grades
- Credit hours for each course and the term in which each course was taken
