Qualification Criteria

To qualify for the Hunt Military Communities Foundation Scholarship Program, applicants must be:

Dependent children are identified as biological and legally adopted children or stepchildren residing in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee. You must be ready to provide proof of dependent status to Hunt Military Communities Foundation if chosen as a recipient by providing (a) birth certificate; (b) custody or guardianship order from a court with authority; and/or (c) marriage certificate.

Active duty personnel who are part-time students are also eligible for an award.

Scholarship Awards

The approved allocation for new Awards is $75,000. Up to 20 awards will be given as follows:

  • Ten $5,000 awards for students attending 4-year colleges or universities.
  • Ten $2,500 awards for students attending 2-year colleges or universities, or vocational-technical students

If insufficient eligible 2-year or vocational-technical students apply, the remaining funds will be allocated to the next-highest ranking 4-year undergraduate students.

Scholarship funds amounting to $25,000 will be set aside for residents of Hunt Military Communities, provided enough eligible applicants apply. If insufficient eligible applicants apply, the remaining funds will be allocated to other qualified applicants.

Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility criteria.

Awards are for undergraduate and vocational-technical programs or certificates study only.

Service members must be active duty as of June of the scholarship year in order to receive payment.

Notification

Applicants will be informed in April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Notifications are sent via email. When setting up your account, avoid using a school or work email. Instead, use an active, personal email address that you will continue to have access to.

Please ensure to add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org as well as the program email address as safe senders in your email contact list.

Disbursement of Scholarships

Scholarship America handles scholarship payments on behalf of Hunt Military Communities Foundation. Payments are made in one installment in early August payable to the applicant’s school.

Selection of Awardees

Scholarship awardees are chosen based on:

  • Community involvement
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An outside appraisal
  • The response to two essays of 300 words or less:
  1. How has being a part of the military or part of a military family affected your life?
  2. What would you like to change in your community and how would you do it?

Financial need is not considered. The selection of awardees is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Hunt Military Communities Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

If you are chosen as a recipient and you do not accept your award in the timeframe given, your award will be forfeited. Part of accepting your award is submitting biographical information along with a head-and-shoulders photograph to the Heroes Foundation.

Obligations
If selected as a scholarship recipient, Hunt Military Communities Foundation and its subsidiaries, reserves the right to publicize the recipient name, school, and any information submitted through the application for public relations and promotional campaigns.
