Scholarship program — who it serves
The Foundation has a long history of funding deserving students preparing for construction careers. Scholarships are offered in three categories. AGC Foundation Scholarships are available to students who are currently enrolled at an accredited post‑secondary institution and are studying in a construction-related field.
Legacy scholarships (awarded annually)
In addition to general Foundation awards, three endowed legacy scholarships are presented each year:
- Charles S. McCrossan Scholarship
Open to Minnesota residents majoring in a construction-related program with a focus on civil engineering and/or road and bridge construction management. Charles S. McCrossan established a Minnesota highway/heavy civil company in 1956 that grew into a diversified general contracting firm run by the McCrossan family. Mr. McCrossan passed away in 2017, leaving a lasting legacy of industry leadership and philanthropy.
- Kraus-Anderson Insurance Scholarship
Created to honor Dennis Diessner, a longtime Kraus-Anderson insurance executive and dedicated AGC of Minnesota Foundation volunteer. This award recognizes an outstanding student pursuing a professional degree in commercial construction at an accredited post‑secondary institution.
- Kraft Construction Scholarship
The Foundation’s first endowed scholarship, honoring the Kraft family’s multi‑generational contributions to Minnesota construction. Martin E. Kraft took entrepreneurial risks in the 1940s by purchasing equipment and taking on projects in Minneapolis, building an excavating, grading, and road construction business alongside his wife Eunice, who managed the home office and finances while they raised six children. Arnold R. (Arnie) Kraft gained hands‑on experience working with his father, later forming his own construction company with his wife Jane and serving actively with AGC of Minnesota. In later years, Arnie and his family moved into safety training; he is a Certified Safety Professional and an MSHA and OSHA‑approved instructor.
