Announcement — 2025 Joyce and Tom Scanlan Scholarship (Minnesota)
We are excited to open applications for the 2025 Joyce and Tom Scanlan Scholarship for students from Minnesota. Eligible candidates should submit their applications by April 15. In addition to a financial award, recipients will be invited to attend the National Federation of the Blind’s National Convention, July 8–13, in New Orleans, with convention expenses covered by the program.
How to Apply
The 2024–2025 scholarship application is currently available. The application window will close on March 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM Eastern.
Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be legally blind in both eyes (documentation: PDF).
- Reside within the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
- Be at least 18 years old by July 8, 2025.
- Be pursuing, or planning to pursue, a full-time postsecondary degree program at a U.S. institution in the fall of the application year. Starting in 2025, however, the National Federation of the Blind may grant up to five scholarships each year to otherwise eligible students who will be enrolled part-time.
- If you expect to enroll part-time because of employment, caregiving responsibilities, or ongoing medical treatment while attending postsecondary school, you are encouraged to provide additional information in the application; the form has been updated to allow applicants to explain these circumstances.
- Attend the entire NFB National Convention in person and participate fully in all scheduled scholarship program activities. Finalists will be offered assistance to help them attend the national convention.
